Shortlinks

Create short, memorable links that redirect to union materials

Security

As an organisation in the public eye, we are especially vulnerable to cyber attacks, and our most susceptible attack vector exists between the keyboard and chair. Therefore, it's important that we allow union officials, members and the general public to interact with the union's systems in a secure way.

Sometimes, it's necessary for us to direct people to enter personally identifiable information (PII), or other sensitive information, on forms located outside of our own systems (i.e., not on an iwgb.org.uk website, like the one you're reading this on). Malicious actors can manipulate our use of these systems to coerce users to unknowingly hand over their information. This is known as phishing.

One way we can mitigate this is by redirecting users through an accredited IWGB domain, to reassure them that they are accessing official union material.

Clarity

It can be useful when creating content or media to use a shorter URL, so that it is more memorable or can be easily communciated verbally.
